Hand-Knitting is the oldest of man's crafts. The Mountains of Kerry sweep down to the shores of the wild Atlantic and along these shores live the farmers' and fishermen's wives and daughters who knit sweaters in their own homes for Moriarty's. Made of heavy, oiled wool, they are warm and keep out the wind and weather. Each family has it's own traditional stiches, a precious unrecorded heritage handed down from mother to daughter for generations. All the stiches of the Aran sweaters have meaning or tell a story and are closely related to the earth,the sea or the home life of the fisherman.
